Please, Mr. President
July 28, 2009
With each passing day, the presidency of Barack Obama looms more and more like a disaster.
I don’t even know where to begin. Of course, the economy is first and foremost in the minds of average Americans. With so many people unemployed that is certainly understandable.
The fact that this man who is supposed to be so brilliant and superior, did not know the content of the healthcare reform bill he insists must be passed before the August recess, makes his assumed brilliance seem more and more like a lie. When asked a question by a reporter about one part of the reform plan, he said he didn’t know what was in it, because he hadn’t read it!
Of course he didn’t read it. No one has read it and yet the president, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, Congressmen Barney Frank and Charlie Rangel (who really belongs in jail), have all said this legislation must be passed in the next few days.
What’s the hurry? Members of Congress don’t have to give any of this a second thought because they are covered by their own healthcare program. Their healthcare is beyond the reach of us peons. They get the best of everything. In addition to their salary they get free transportation, free travel first class to anywhere in the world, all kinds of free amenities, and guess what? After only two full terms and one-half of a third term, they are fully vested in a pension program.
Since a congressional term consists of only two years, that means that after five years in Congress they are fully vested in a congressional pension!
I remember several years ago when a committee was trying to persuade me to resign from the airwaves and run for a congressional seat they thought I could have won. When I hesitated, one of the members said, “Hey, Bob, look . . . after five years in the Congress you will qualify for a pension.“
Someone else said, “Bob, we know you like to travel and are interested in foreign affairs, just the think of the trips you could take.” I am not making any of this stuff up. As a matter of fact, these gentlemen I am quoting were well-meaning citizens who did believe I would make a good congressman. I do not quote them for any reason other than to illustrate what inducements cause people to run for Congress. Just remember all of these benefits are paid for by you and me and other taxpayers!
Getting back to the commander in chief, I must remind you he has named scores of “czars” to eat up huge salaries and ancillary charges to do the job Congress and he were elected to do.
For quite sometime now, all of us, and I shamefully include myself, were loath to be critical of Barack Obama. This was so because we didn’t want to be accused of being racists. But, the fat is in the fire and we should react to President Obama the same way we react to any other president, whether it is Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, or Franklin Roosevelt.
So, Mr. President, I say to you, “Sir, you are just as good as any of those white presidents. Therefore, I am not going to say up is down or black is white or . . . well, you get the picture.”
Please, Mr. President, STOP DESTROYING THE REPUBLIC!
