Obama: We Had Your Number!
June 5, 2009
How many of you remember an incident during the 2008 presidential campaign when a popular Cincinnati talk show host introduced Republican candidate John McCain?
Prior to actually introducing the Arizona senator, the radio star did what he was supposed to do ... warm up the audience with a rousing build up about the GOP candidate John McCain, and a sardonic minute or so pointing out what a dangerous thing it would be to allow Barack Obama to win.
Several times Bill Cunningham, the radio host I referred to, called Barack Obama by his full name: Barack Hussein Obama! Each time, Mr. Cunningham said the middle name, Hussein, he became even more sardonic. The audience loved it!
I thought it was meaningful and fair. After all, that is Barack Obama’s full legal name. Some people thought there was something tawdry and even somewhat slanderous about his repeating the Democrat candidate’s correct full name. When Senator McCain was informed of what Cunningham had done, he was furious and denounced Bill publicly, although not by name. I thought more would be made of the incident, but the McCain camp was afraid of any “backlash.”
How curious that anybody should be ashamed of calling somebody by their full name, which of course must include the person's middle name. Does anybody remember John FITZGERALD Kennedy, Lyndon BAINES Johnson, or Richard MILHOUS Nixon, etc.?
So maybe McCain and his pathetic handlers thought there was something very pejorative in mentioning Barack’s middle name. I think November 4, 2008 will go down in history as one of the worst days in the history of the United States of America, but if President Obama had to win, I’m somewhat pleased it was McCain who lost rather that someone like Mitt Romney or Mike Huckabee.
After all, it is painfully obvious those five and a one-half years in the Hanoi Hilton did serious damage to Senator McCain’s mental stability. I write this in sadness rather than in anger. But, Barack Obama has no trouble now that he is safely ensconced in the White House saying loud and clear that his middle name is Hussein and, yes, he was raised in a Muslim country.
Therefore, we should not be surprised that on his trip to the Middle East he said the United States could be considered as “one of the largest Muslim countries in the world.” Check it out. Indonesia has 200 million Muslims; Pakistan, 170 million; India, 157 million. The majority of India’s residents are Hindus.
So, why does Barack say these things? He reminds me of those people who win huge amounts of money because they have the winning lottery ticket but they keep it quiet until they feel it's safe to brag!
Keep bragging, Mr. President. You have vindicated those of us who had your number all along.
