2012: Most Important Election Ever

January 17, 2012

This is more than ever the most important presidential election since 1860. That was the year the new party defeated the Democrats. The new party was the Republican Party. The Republican Party came into being as the result of the abolitionist movement which had grown in numbers and passion for many decades. The many uninformed Americans have no idea what has gone on ever since, if not before the founding of the Republic. It is painful for me to write about events which should need no explanation. It isn’t that I mind explaining. It is that I am having to point out things which should have been taught in elementary and high school and should be general knowledge.

Some of you who read this blog must be sick and tired of my constant lamenting because of the lack of knowledge that most Americans have. I will put aside the lecture and proceed to remind one and all that the idea that slavery was acceptable and not contentious is dead wrong. Even though, at the time of the adoption of the Constitution there was no debate on the subject of slavery, there were people in the North and even some in the South who found the existence of slavery an abomination. But it wasn’t until the Republican Party was founded in 1854 that a political party dedicated itself to the elimination of slavery. The first Republican candidate was John C. Freemont. He lost to Democrat James Buchanan. The fifteenth president was perfectly comfortable with slavery and had no intention of doing anything to change the status quo. The blacks in this country are as ignorant of this as are most whites. I recall reading how Herbert Hoover, the Republican, got the black vote in 1928 and 1932 because of the GOP’s anti-slavery history. Of course, back then the Democrats were pro slavery and any Democrat in the North might not be looked upon favorably by the few African-Americans who went to the polls.

When Abraham Lincoln won the election in 1860 it set the stage for the Civil War and the bloodiest decade in American history. The United States of America would never be the same after the election of 1860. And, that is why I say to you this year’s election will be the most important one since then. If Barack Obama, who is a socialist at heart and who, based on his first eight speeches after becoming president, hates America, and who has done more to tear down the capitalist system than anyone dreamed he would, I predict in a second term he will complete the job of destroying America as we have known it. If you think this hyperbole, just wait. As a great American entertainer used to say, “You ain’t seen nuthin’ yet!”
