Vilifying Herman Cain

November 3, 2011

I don’t care if I sound like a broken record, but whenever the hackneyed bogus charge of “racist” comes out, I can’t help but think there is no one who knows better than I how much damage that can do to a person. I think that there are very few actual racists. I mean like David Duke or that maniac in Fallbrook, California who was the epitome of a person who hated someone because he was black. I interviewed David Duke way back in the 1980s. I tried to get through to him while we were on the air. I actually thought I might be making some progress. But, I was foolish to think I could get through to this guy. At first I lumped him in with all of those folks who may not be true haters and race-obsessed freaks. But, during the course of the interview, I realized it was a no-win situation.

All I did was give ammunition to those wackos who have been after me because I hollered at them on the telephone: you know . . . get off my phone, creep! These were guys who had it in for me and were determined to destroy me in order to get me off the air. What they did was cloak themselves as true friends of the downtrodden. They portrayed themselves as the protectors of the black race, the savior of the victims of the plantation owner and the Ku Klux Klan hooligans. These punks like one guy who lives in the Bronx and another guy who lives in New Jersey, both of whom are white, conducted a vendetta against me which got me fired from WABC in 1996 and blackballed from several outlets on television and radio. I have mentioned this before on this blog. I know there are some of you who take me to task because you think I complain too much. I advise you to stop reading this editorial if you don’t want to hear me complain. This is my column, after all, and if I don’t get this angst inside of me out, I will explode. Maybe if I had gone ahead and written another book, I might feel better.

Getting back to what is going on now with the slander directed at Herman Cain, I hope we can all put this episode behind us and let the person who exposed this nonissue stew in his or her own juices. There are two reasons Mr. Cain is on this crucible. Number one, he is a likable and intelligent man who could beat the vicious, lying narcissist, Barack the Bold. They want to cripple him politically. And the second reason Mr. Cain is going through this torture is society has decided that if a man is charged with any impropriety of a sexual nature, even if that man did not even touch the woman, then that man or the company he works for must pay a great deal of money to the harassed party. Otherwise, there will be a court case and the whole world will know what a licentious lout he is.

This was not the intent of the Constitution and if we do not stop it, we will invite a fascist regime to take care of the situation. I cannot think of anything more appropriate than the words of Martin Luther King Jr., who said, “When I look back, it is not the words of my enemies that hurt. . . it is the silence of my friends.”
