Ignorance Is Bliss to Many
March 10, 2011
I can’t stand it anymore. No, I never could stand it! And what I can’t stand is the stupidity of many American brethren. For example, how’s this? This morning I chanced to meet a man I have known for several years. He and his wife were just coming in a bank as I was leaving. Naturally we began gabbing. He loves to talk and so do I. There is nothing wrong with that. After all, I have avoided having to work for a living because I am a good talker. At least that is what they say.
Anyway, this fellow and I were talking about the disgraceful conduct of those union thugs in Wisconsin — the same thugs that are trying to destroy the constitutional process guaranteed us by the Founding Fathers. These thugs don’t care that Scott Walker won the election for governor. They don’t care that the majority of Wisconsin voters elected a Republican legislature. All they care about is protecting their ability to gouge the taxpayers by continuing to receive obscene emoluments and every other conceivable financial goodie.
So, they are making threats, they are damaging and destroying state property, and they are trying to intimidate the state legislators so they will not be able to carry out the will of the people.I commented on this and my acquaintance said, “Yes, but what if the vote went the other way, wouldn’t we be upset? What if the Democrats had won and continued draining the treasury of money they don’t have? Wouldn’t we be angry?”
I responded that the anger issue has nothing to do with what I am saying. I am saying since we claim we believe in democracy and since we claim we want to preserve the Republic, that, of course, we have to abide by the will of the majority. When Barack Obama started doing things that some people didn’t like just after his election in 2008, he said, “We won.” That is it. He won then and the Republicans won in 2010.
But if we are going to ignore the outcome of an election, then maybe we are headed for civil war. But, this fellow is not very bright even though he thinks he is. And then a little later I happened to become involved in another idiotic conversation. In this case, I was talking to another dummy who said he hated unions. Later he also said he hated Wal-Mart. I asked him why he hated Wal-Mart. He said because they have forced many little shops to go out of business. I asked him if he knew any small business owners who were forced to close because of Wal-Mart and he said he couldn’t think of any at the moment.
And then he said, as though he were reaching for a life preserver, “Wal-Mart is also against unions. They don’t have union employees!” At that point, I reminded him that he said earlier he hated unions. His response, without batting an eye was, “I lost a lot of money when General Motors collapsed because of the damn United Auto Workers union.”
Dear BobGrantOnline.com reader, I am sparing you more anguish from these two gentlemen who probably have a combined IQ of 68. But, it is because of people like these two that I despair for the future of this once great Republic.
